Second Stitch’s directory of food and nutrition resources in San Diego County goes beyond the basics, including a wide range of services, from local food pantries stocked with nutritious fresh foods to supplemental food assistance boxes and federal food and nutrition access programs. The San Diego Food Bank provides crucial services to the community. This includes the federal ‘Emergency Food Assistance Program’, offering monthly food packages to eligible individuals and families. They also run the ‘Neighborhood Distribution Program’ at over 20 locations in San Diego County, providing monthly food distributions. North County Food Bank specifically provides a pantry. The pantry is set up similarly to a neighborhood grocery store, it offers a variety of fresh fruits, fresh vegetables, meats, dairy products, baked goods, nonperishable canned food items, diapers for infants & toddlers, and period supplies. Clients can stock up on enough food items to feed their families for two weeks. Clients can make appointments every two weeks.

CALFRESH APPLICATION

Income eligible individuals and families can get help buying healthy food through California’s CalFresh Program, formerly known as Food Stamps. CalFresh can help stretch food budgets and ensure that families are able to access healthier, culturally appropriate foods. Households that qualify for the program receive, on average, $200 per month for food benefits in California.

BROTHER BENO FOUNDATION

BROTHER BENNO

Among other services, Brother Benno’s provides families with children, senior citizens, and the disabled one or more family food boxes (depending on size of household). The food box consists of basic food staples to feed a family of four for three days and is intended to supplement the nutritional needs of low-income families.

GROCERIES WITH GRACE

If you need an extra bag or two of groceries, Groceries with Grace is here to help. On the third Saturday of the month they distribute nearly 200 bags of groceries to those who attend their drive-through pick-up.
